‘Anti-India activities’ convict Nepali Maoist leaders awarded clean chit
A Court in Bihar state of India on Friday gave a clean to 11 Nepali Maoist leaders facing criminal cases of conspiracy and anti-India activities.
The Patna Sessions Court gave the verdict today in the criminal cases which had remained pending in the District Court for nearly eight years after the Bihar government, following intervention by the Union Home Ministry, initiated the process of withdrawing criminal cases against the Maoist leaders – Shyam Kishore Prasad Yadav, Kul Bahadur KC, Chitra Bahadur Shrestha, Lokendra Bist, Kumar Dahal, Hit Bahadur Tamang, Anil Sharma, Dilip Maharaj, Prasad Apagai, Ranju Thapa and Suman Tamang.
Public prosecutor Jai Prakash Singh had on Wednesday filed a petition on behalf of the Bihar government to withdraw cases against Nepali leaders who were arrested from Patna hotels in raids on May 2, 2004 and released on bail in 2006.
Singh said that Bihar government withdrew the cases against the Nepali leaders as they are holding important position in Nepal politics and that the move will help strengthen bilateral ties.
