Voting for CA chairman on Thursday; NC works for UML's unanimous selection

The constituent Assembly (CA) is scheduled to hold election of its chairman and vice-chairman on Thursday.

According to statement made by CA acting chair Kul Bahadur Gurung, Monday, the election will be held at 11 am on Thursday for which proposals of candidates will have to be registered at CA on Wednesday.

Meanwhile, the central committee meeting of the Nepali Congress (NC) held this morning has decided to begin political consultations to elect Unified Marxist Leninist (UML) candidate unanimously for the post of CA chairman.

In line with their understanding of electing NC candidate as president, Madhesi Janadhikar Forum (MJF) candidate as vice president and (UML) candidate as CA chairman, the three parties are expected to back UML candidate for the position.

The UML is expected to field its central member and speaker of the interim parliament Subas Nemwang as the candidate for CA chairman.
