Cultural walkathon being organized to conserve Bagmati

With an aim of sensitizing the issue of upholding the Bagmati River Civilization, as a commitment of making new Nepal ‘Bagmati Cultural Walkathon’ from Jorpati to Kupondole is being organised Today morning.

The walk is a part of Bagmati Peace Festival 2065. Nepal Association of Rafting Agents (NARA) in collaboration with APBCIDC is organising the walk. The walk has been started from Jorpati at 7:00 and end at Kopundole.

"We have appealed to political leaders, representatives of sister organisations of all political parties, government offices, diplomatic missions, international organisations, non-governmental organisations, business community, entrepreneurs, artistes, students, security agencies, workers, peasants, students, literary figures, indigenous nationalities and all new Nepal loving people to participate in the walkathon, which aims at preserving ‘lifeline’ of new Nepal the Bagmati River," quoted media as Krishna KC, president of the High Powered Bagmati Civilisation Integrated Development Committee (APBCIDC), one of the organisers of the walkathon as saying.

"Unless we preserve the Bagmati River Civilization and keep the River clean, pure, and beautiful, the dream of making new Nepal will remain incomplete," KC said at a press conference.

Appealing to the media to make the issue related to Bagmati River a national issue, KC said that the land-brokers had encroached around 12,000 ropanis of land of Bagmati River compared to the map of 2021 BS.

He said that all political parties should have common stance in preserving the Bagmati River and its civilisation, and environmental issues.
Former member secretary of the Nepal Sports Council Binod Shankar Palikhe stressed everybody’s support to keep the Bagmati River clean and preserve its civilization.

Executive chairman of the Nepal Tourism Board Prachanda Man Shrestha said that the Board would extend its full support to the campaign of preserving the Bagmati civilisation.

Meanwhile, NARA in collaboration with APBCIDC, is going to organise rafting contest from August 9 and fixed ticket prices ranging from Rs. 299 to Rs.12,000 to take part in the contest from Sundarijal to Gokarna for different groups. Mountain Dew and Lowenbrau Beer have sponsored the rafting challenges.
