The chariot of the Rato Machhindranath will be towed to Jawalakhel from Thatitol of Lagankhel Thursday for the coming Bhotojatra.

A meeting of the astrologers held two months ago had decided July 23rd as an auspicious day to tow the chariot.
Newly elected president Dr. Ram Baran Yadav will be invited after the chariot is reached at Jawalakhel, it is said.
As per the tradition, the Bhotojatra is observed four days after the chariot is reached at Jawalakhel. So, if the chariot reaches there Thursday, the Bhotojatra will be celebrated on July 26.
Chief of Guthi Sansthan, Lalitpur, Purushottam Poudel, said they began the preparation to observe this year’s Bhotojatra with the first president of republic Nepal, Dr. Ram Baran Yadav as the chief guest as he is the head of state.
The Bhotojatra was begun in the Lichhavi period when king Narendra Dev was in rule.
The tradition of making king the chief guest at the festival was broken in the history since last year.
