Foreign reactionary forces behind sudden political twist: Prachanda

Nepalmountainnews Report | 22 Jul 2008

The Maoist party has said that "foreign reactionary forces" are acting behind the current political turn in the country.

Speaking at a press meet organized by the party at its CA party office Singha Durbar, party chairman Prachanda said the politics of the newly formed alliance is continuation of the political game being practiced during the 90s and would pose threat to national sovereignty and integrity. prachanda.jpg

He added that the new coalition of Nepali Congress, CPN (UML) and Madhesi Janadhikar Forum would push the nation into grave internal conflict thereby giving opportunity to foreigners to take its advantage.

Informing that the current government has stopped releasing the budget for People's Liberation Army (PLA), Prachanda warned the situation would turn volatile if it continued to violate the past agreements.

According to him, reactionary forces had been trying since the Constituent Assembly polls to stop the Maoists from taking over the leadership of new government.

Amendment of the constitution empowering the parties to change the government with simple majority vote, demanding for dismantling of the PLA and delaying formation of new government were some of the instances he cited to substantiate his claims.

The Maoist strongman also revealed that his party had received pressure from New Delhi to accept Girija Prasad Koirala as the president of the country. In a question, he denied infiltration of Indian spies into his party, but said all parties in Nepal have contacts and relations with Indian agents, and his party is not an exception.

He also stressed on the need for unity among all communists, pro-republic forces and ethnic groups for safeguarding the national sovereignty and integrity.
