The cabinet has determined the protocol rankings for the top government posts. According to the cabinet decision, the President was accorded the highest protocol ranking, followed by the Prime Minister, Chief Justice, Chairman of the Constituent Assembly and the Vice-President in the second, third, fourth and fifth ranking respectively.
Protocol for Vice-President was decided after dwelling on how other countries treat their veeps.
Giriraj Mani Pokhrel, the minister for health and population, said the cabinet also decided that the President would reside in Shital Niwas, while the VP would be housed in Ministers’ Quarters in Pulchowk for the time being.
The cabinet has proposed to provide the President with 300 to 500 security personnel, while the VP will be guarded by some 150 personnel. The government has also decided to hand the security responsibility of both to the Nepal Army.
