Ram Raja Prasad Singh-the first republican leader who is soon-to-be president of New Republican Nepal said he had never dreamt of being elected as the first president of the republic of Nepal.
“I have devoted my entire life for the battle and never ever dreamt of being elected as the president of Nepal.”
“In fact, the quest for instituting a democratic republic of Nepal had begun two decades earlier than the Kathmandu explosion that was accomplished aiming the King and the royal palace in the year 1986.
The explosion was made possible after a long and meticulous planning, Singh added.
Airing his view to the Bimarsh Weekly Friday, Singh said “I had said almost a decade back that the King of Nepal should renounce the throne and put the crown in a museum for public display….Nepal’s ex-King Gyanendra did exactly that”.
“My candidacy has been supported by the Maoists party and the three Madhesi parties…I never found myself close to the leaders of the Nepali Congress”, he further said.
“Nepal as a nation-state will never disintegrate and that no one as such has the capability to do that either…now it has become certain that the Nepali people are the most tolerant in the entire world community”.
“I am a great admirer of the American constitution…my entire efforts will concentrate on advising the government to draft a constitution similar to that of South Africa”.
“I am almost certain that the Madheshi parties in Nepal will find themselves close to the Maoists in the days ahead and I hope that the rest of the parties too will cooperate in the process of drafting a new inclusive constitution for the Nepali community”.
“I am thankful to the Maoists party and Comrade Pushpa Kamal Dahal particularly that they concluded that I was the appropriate candidate for the post of the president…I believe that Comrade Dahal could do a lot of good to this country if he forms the next government under his command”.
“India itself has many a time in the past undergone disintegration…India knows it well what is means diving a country…personally I believe that India will not support disintegration of Nepal and it, if that does happen, will not be in the benefit of India”.
Telegraphnepal.com adds: In one of the interviews published some six months back Ram Raja Prasad Singh is on record to have said that after India gained Independence, Mr. Singh’s father had point blank told the aggressive Indian leader Sardar Ballav Bhai Patel that he should not take any steps to annex Nepal into the Indian Union.
“You the Indians do not know what the pride in being an independent nation like Nepal as you have remained under a colonial rule”, his father had said recalled Mr. Singh-the soon-to-be president of New Republican Nepal.
