Nepali Congress (NC) and the CPN-UML, the second and third largest party in the constituent assembly, which have decided not to join the next government to be formed under Maoist leadership, are forming a new equation.
The earlier party alliances were also getting changed after the voting is due to settle the presidential issue. Earlier, it is reported that an alliance has been formed between Maoist and UML to decide over the name of presidency.
A meeting of the NC central committee held today in presence of Prime Minister and party president Girija Prasad Koirala, has make a decision to forward the name for the top post after consulting the UML and other parties.
"Maoist have played a game of use and throw with the parties," NC central member Prakash Sahran Mahat told reporters after the meeting, adding, since Maoists betrayed UML in case of president possibility of alliance with the party among others in high.
Meanwhile, UML leader Bharat Mohan Adhikari commenting over the latest Maoist move said, "Maoists have accepted the Madhesis alliance betraying the communists. So one can only wait and see its future move".
Though he didn't confirm his party's alliance with the NC, Adhikari said his party will remain out of the government. Since Prachanda in today's meeting with Jhala Nath Khanal claimed for the portfolios including Home, Defence, Finance among others for his party, possibilities of further alliance with the party was over, he added.
However, another UML leader Sankhar Pokharel has hinted the possibility of UML-NC alliance in selection of president and vice president.
It is learnt that the parties have proposed the names for the posts considering the chances of alliance. But, despite their alliance the simple majority seems still far behind. While the Maoists have proposed Ram Raja Prasad Singh for the top post to whom the Madhesi parties have also given green signal.
