The 'rebellious' policemen at Riot Police Battalion in Nepalgunj surrendered at around midnight on Sunday ending the two-day-long hostage drama as the government refused to hold talks and ruled out their '20-point' charter of demands.
When policemen from Armed Police Force stormed the compound asking to yield or face consequences, the rebellious opted for former.
All seven senior police officers held hostage were released.
"We told them we cannot hold talks and they must surrender," Narendra Raj Sharma, Chief District Officer of Banke district told Kantiput FM.
"They will face action as per the Police Act," he added.
According to Sharma, all the released hostages are in normal condition. They had been taken hostage from Saturday noon by junior policemen who demanded better treatment and end of corruption.
Yesterday, the District Administration of Banke had declared the surrounding areas around the battalion as 'riot-torn area' to prevent any untoward incidents.
Earlier, the cabinet had authorised Home Ministry to take all necessary measures to end indiscipline and anarchy.
Since Sunday, the battalion had been ringed by policemen from APF. The Nepali Army (NA) also ran aerial survey of the battalion and a team of Ranger Force had also been deployed on Sunday evening building up the pressure on 'rebel policemen.'
Meanwhile the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) has expressed concern over the revolt staged by junior police officials in Nepalgunj.
Security officials have said that they are ringing the area in order to make the rebellious policemen surrender and not to allow them to flee.
Issuing a statement on Sunday, the rights watchdog urged the government to probe the revolt at the riot control battalion of the Nepal Police in Nepalgunj and see to the complaints of exploitation of junior officials and corruption within the police agency.
