The government has decided to issue multiple entry visa for the foreigners visiting Nepal. Amending the existing immigration regulations the government has also lowered the permit fees for the tourists while going in trekking at the restricted zones.
According to the new provision tourists visiting Nepal on and after 16 of July will be entertained with the multiple visa for 15, 30 and 90 days as per their needs. For that the applicants have to pay US$ 25, 40 and 100 respectively. The new amendment has abolished the earlier provision on 60 day single entry visa for US$ 60.
The government has also significantly lowered the cost in permit for trekking at the remote areas. In contradiction to the earlier provision in which the trekkers had to pay US$ 700 for 10 days trek in the Upper Mustang and Upper Dolpa trekking zones, the new provision lowered the cost to 500$.
Likewise, the cost each tourist has to pay to go for hike in Manaslu Region has also been sliced down from existing 90 and 75 US$ to 70 and 50 respectively. Tourists going to Humal now have to pay only US$ 50 per person per day. Earlier tourists have to pay US$90 for the same.
According to the Department of Immigration (DoI), the government has withdrawn the provisions on Gratis Visas. Earlier, tourists along with the Chinese were provided with free visas after their three day stay in Nepal. The new immigration provision has also removed the rule of Gratis visas in which the tourists got free visa upon their Nepal arrival once they stayed here for 15 days. The government during the period of Maoist insurgency had made such provisions to develop Nepal as the transit point. But since the entrepreneurs suggested the government that the same provision has shorten the Nepal stay of tourists, the government has modified the provisions. Most of the tourists despite extending their visas, prefer to leave the country.
The government with the aim to foster foreign investment in the national enterprises has simplified the visa processes for investors. The Department said that the capitalists who will invest a sum of Rs 100 million and above were provided with Multiple Entry Business Visas along with their dependent. And they were even supposed not to pay any visa fees.
Similarly, those investing Rs 10 million and below as personal asset were also entertained with the Business Visas along with their dependants after paying US$ 30 per month. According to the statement issued by the DoI the applicant has to pay "US$ 300 for a year, but only 1000 $ for five years period". However, those investing more than Rs 10 million as personal spend has to pay only US$ 10 for a month, 100 $ per year and for five years 500 $ along with their dependents.
Those who wish to extend their stay with their active tourist visas have to pay US$ 2 daily. But in case the visa expired, the applicant has to pay additional US$ 3 in the simple charge.
The department has also provisioned that the foreign students arrived on student visas for education degrees have to pay US$ 20 per month and other arrived for not such degree have to pay US$ 50 every month.
