As in the year before, the season of beauty contests has now begun in Hong Kong. Dreams Unlimited, which has been organizing Miss Talent Hunt every August for the past three years, is coming up with this year's edition in the last week of August again. The competition has been discovering new talents besides providing entertainment outlets to the Nepalis of Hong Kong.
Nepali girls living in Hong Kong have already taken a step forward in the field of modeling, and seem delighted on getting to show their talents through such contests.
This is the leisure period for Nepali girls there as their exams are over, and they are now busy registering for the competition.
According to the organizers, this year's event will have fashion show as well as various cultural presentations to make it more entertaining.
This year's event coordinator is Laxmi Thapa and the choreographers include Mamita Gurung and Mister Dharan first runner-up 1997 Tara Subba. The participants' photo session, as always, will be done by HKNepal.com.
Susmita Gurung, who won Miss Talent Hunt in 2007, has become a celebrity among Hong Kong's Nepalis. Along with that, she has been equally in demand for hosting shows and every fashion event in the mega city. Offers for music videos also continue to pour in.
This has also encouraged organizers of such beauty contests, and Nepalis abroad have started participating with great enthusiasm in such events.
The Miss Nepal Hong Kong beauty pageant has been shelved for the time being, but Miss Talent Hunt has made up for it. It is a much-awaited event among Hong Kong's Nepalis, and Nepali girls are increasingly getting attracted to it, said choreographer Mamita Gurung through email.
Event coordinator Laxmi Thapa said that the Miss Talent Hunt is not just about evaluating beauty but also about bringing out hidden talents.
The past winners of the competition include Deepti Thapa in 2005, Basanti Pun in 2006 and Susmita Gurung in 2007. -TKP
