MILAN -- The glaciers melt. Perhaps, among one hundred years on the Alps there won't be even more. But what is it, indeed, to put them in crisis? What can be done to save them? And what consequences will have this phenomenon on the mountaineering and the daily life? Of this matter has spoken in the last days to Milan, to the conference "Because the glaciers withdraw?" organized by the university of the Studies, in which Reinhold Messner has also participated.
The meeting, sponsored by the Committee EvK2Cnr, saw the participation of Italian and international researchers, that they are compared on the recent studies of glacial metereologia and climatology of glacial high altitude. Messner has intervened bringing the testimony of whom has been able to see with his own eyes, in the long mountaineering career, the disappearance of the glaciers especially the Alps.
"The Alps, without glaciers, will become far more dangerous," said Messner, adding, "I saw with my own eyes the change of glaciers Paths that passed on glacier that passed on glacier they now cross unstable rocks. And these changes put in danger the reserves of sweet water."
Great success for the unprecedented experiment at the University of Milan, coordinated by Claudio Smiraglia, who provided for the drafting of a blanket on the glacier of geotextile Dosdè, in Alta Valtellina, to protect it from the hot summer months. A research conducted in collaboration with the Province of Sondrio and Levissima, which has its source in the group Dosdè-Piazzi.
To international level, a role plan had the meteorological station which is located 8000 meters, on the hill south of Everest, installed in mid-May as part of scientific expedition Share-Everest 2008, by Gianni Tartars, chairman of the Scientific Council of the Committee EvK2Cnr.
