Despite the hike in price of the fuel, easy access to gasoline is still a far off dream for general customers. People have to queue for hours for few litres of petrol and diesel as Nepal Oil Corporation (NOC) the sole distributor of the petroleum products in the country has failed to ensure smooth supply even after the price hike.
Demanding end of petroleum crisis and smooth supply, Nepal Petroleum Dealers Association (NPDA) has been in strike for the last three days. As part of its protests, NPDA padlocked NOC depots and stopped the purchase, sale and distribution of fuel from NOC depots from the 23rd June.
A meeting has been held at the NOC head office between the NPDA representatives and NOC officials Wednesday to find the way out for the current crisis but consequently failed to reach any understanding.
According to NDPA chairman Shiva Prasad Ghimire, NDPA members left the meeting as there was no meaning for the further talks for NOC did not show any concern over the implementation of previous agreements for making the price of diesel and kerosene similar.
Meanwhile, NOC spokesperson Mukunda Dhungel said that they had asked for some added time to resolve the problem but as NOC did not listen to them and uniformly sticked to their claim over the issue, the meeting was dismissed.
NOC spokesperson Dhungel further said that the problem will be resolved slowly as it has been only some time that the price was raised and that they are bearing huge losses.
Just on Tuesday, the government and transporters reached agreement to end strike after increasing transportation fares by 28 percent.
Transporters had been staging a strike from June 22 demanding a 35 percent rise in transport fares, 10 percent more than the rate set by the government.
