Dr Dilli Raman Regmi National Academy has decided to bestow this year's peace award entitled for national and international peace heroes to CPN-Maoist chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal 'Prachanda' and former US president Jimmy Carter respectively. 
Dahal has been nominated for the “Dr. Dilli Raman Regmi National Peace Award 2065 BS” for his contributions to restore lasting peace in the country and to establish democratic federal republic in Nepal and implement the agenda of Constituent Assembly.
Prachanda is the second person to bag the award that carried a purse of one hundred thousand rupees and a plaque with golden inscriptions. A meeting of the Academy’s board took the decision, said a press statement of the Academy.
The award that was constituted by the academy in 2064 BS was conferred upon Ram Hari Sharma, widely known as the ‘living martyr’ of Nepal posthumously last year for his outstanding contributions to stamp out Rana oligarchy from Nepal.
Similarly, the ‘Dr. Dilliraman Regmi International Peace Award 2008’ will be conferred to former US president and noble peace prize winner Jimmy Carter for his selfless contributions to usher in peace in Nepal. Carter, chief of the ‘Carter Center’ USA paid an instrumental role in giving impetus to the peace process through various activities of the Center’s office in Nepal.
The Award was conferred upon for the first time to Nelson Mandela and for the second time to Mahatma Gandhi posthumously.
The Award carries a plaque inscribed in golden letters elaborating the role played by the Award winner in the restoration of peace at the international level and is a memorabilia reflecting Nepal’s art, culture, geography and lifestyle.
Both the Awards will be given at the date and time that would be convenient for the leaders, the release signed by Dr. Bishnu Hari Nepal, president of the Academy said.
