In an effort to make people aware of the plight of street children in the area, an organization working for the walfare for the street children has organized a programme in tourist hub Thamel, Friday.
More than 10 street children performed dances, played madal and sang folk songs on the accassion.
Pradip Bikram Thapa, president of the Thamel Tourist Guide Baal Uddhar Kendra Nepal, said the programme was a part of their effort to upgrade standard of the street kids.
With the money collected from passers-by, Thapa said, his organization will take care of the children.
“This is a small effort to help control the problem of street children,” said vice president Mahendra Bikram Shahi.
The locals and shop-owners in the area were not much impressed with the performance, which blocked the road and affected nearby traffic.
Shop owner Tshering Lama said, “This is yet another method to make easy money from locals and tourists.”
