MILAN – Are the glaciers withdrawing? This is the question to which the scientists try to answer gathered at the upcoming international conference to be held in Milan, Italy on June 19. The meeting, sponsored by the Committee EvK2Cnr, will see the participation of Italian researchers and international, which will be confronted on recent studies of meteorology and climatology glacial high altitude.
The conference entitles: "Why the glaciers withdraw? A new frontier in the scientific search: the glacial meteorology from the poles to the equator" will begin at the Sala Polifunzionale Sanpellegrino Nestle Water Italy on June 19.
According to the organizers, the conference will be devoted to the old matter of the withdrawal of the glaciers and the new perspectives opened by the glacial meteorology, reported evk2cnr news report. The meeting aims to explain the reasons of the phenomenon of regression of these environmental systems, underlining the particular sensibility to the effects of the climatic changes in action.
The comparison is possible graces to the results of the latest research in meteorology and climatology glacial mountain areas from polar to equatorial, those brought forward by many researchers of the whole World, including those from the Committee EvK2Cnr.
After the first session greeting to the institutional authorities, the programme will follow the exposure of reports on different thematic areas. Discussions on the possible methodologies of survival of the glaciers, of the net of AWS above the glaciers in Lombardy and of the climatic changes in Greenland and in the zones of the Himalaya and Karakorum will also be held. In these last two cases fundamental it has revealed the contribution brought by the net Share, (Stations High at Altitude for Research on the Environment), which, in this day of deepening, will be presented by Dr.Gianni Tartari, scientific President of the Council of the Committee EvK2Cnr.
The meeting, in which the mountain climber Rehinold Messner will participate, will hold a discussion and the presentation of scientific posters, including one realized by the Committee EVK2Cnr that illustrates the project SHARE Everest 2008 and the installation the meteorological station highest in the world, 8.000 m s.l.m., happened last 15 May and that it will go to add him to other stations of the network SHARE.
The scientific organization of the conference was run by prof. Claudio Smiraglia and Guglielmina Diolaiuti, of the Department of Earth Sciences "A. Desio" of the University of Milan and of the Glaciological Committee Italian.
The congress will develop under the patronage of the Committee EvK2Cnr, of the Scientific Committee for the Italian Alpine Club, of the Italian Association of Physical Geography and Geomorphology and, finally, from the Stelvio National Park-Committee of Management Region Lombardy.
