Nepal has been defeated to India with 0-4 in the inaugural day match at the fifth SAFF Championship in Male on Tuesday.
Though Nepal made some early moves but could not capitalise on them. In the seventh minute, Bishan Gauchan ended up with a weak shot which was easily gathered by Indian goalkeeper Subrato Paul. Biraj Maharjan failed to score in one-to-one situation with the Indian goalkeeper one minute later, while the Indian goalkeeper saved Anjan KC's powerful shot in the 14th minute. Nepal goalkeeper Ritesh Thapa saved Dias' long-range shot in the ninth minute.
NP Pradeep opened the scoring through a header in the 27th minute following a free kick from Stephen Dias after Parbat Pandey fouled Stephen Dias.
India skipper Bhaichung Bhutia doubled the tally in the 35th minute with a back-volley shot on a cross from Renedy Singh. Fed by Dias again, unmarked Sunil Chhetri made it 3-0 in the 68th minute and Sushil Kumar joined the party when he tapped the ball into the net in the 84th minute following a pass from Sunil Chhetri.
Drawn in the Group of Death, Nepal will take on hosts Maldives on Thursday before facing Pakistan on Friday.
