Neel Gurung, 40, a resident of Pokhara, died due to lack of oxygen while descending from the top of 8,463-metre Mt Makalu in Sankhuwasabha district on May 18, members of his expedition team said on Friday.
Nine persons of a French expedition, including Gurung, had scaled Mt Makalu on May 18.
Gurung died the same day while descending from Camp No 4 to Camp No 3, but information regarding this could not be delivered on time due to lack of communication facility at the base camp, said Jaya Prakash Yamphu, a member of the team, upon their arrival at Khandbari, the district headquarters.
It is learnt that Gurung had a history of tuberculosis.
The body has been brought down to Camp No 2, he said.
The base camp of Mt Malalu lies some 120 km north of the district headquarters Khandbari.
