Vehicular strike called by transport operators has continued for the third day today. The Transporters association has also warned that vehicular traffic throughout the country would come to a halt from May 18 if their demands were not met.
The strike has affected life in four zones in the eastern region. Mechi, Sagarmatha, Koshi and Janakpur zones have been affected by the strike by transporters demanding fulfillment of their ten point demands.
The demands include security of vehicles and labour, strict law enforcement, withdrawal of fuel price hike and increase in fares among others. The strike has been called by National Federation of Transporters Enterprenuers, Labour Association and Truck and Tanker Federation. There has been no movement of vehicles on the main roads.
The transporters have warned of a nationwide strike if their demands were not met. Yesterday at least two dozen of vehicles were vandalised in Jhapa, Morang and Sunsari for defying the strike.
Meanwhile the transporters Association met Maoist chairman Prachanda at latters's Naya Bazaar residence. According to the officials of the association Prachanda was committed to end the impasse and said the past agreements should be implemented.
