I will not quit palace shortly: King Gyanendra

Nepalmountainnews Report | 14 May 2008

While the Maoist party leaders are asking the King to step down from the Palace fixing the deadline by May 27 and warning to face forceful eviction if the latter denied the people’s verdict, King Gyanendra is learnt not to quit palace in graceful manner as called on by Maoist.

“You people don’t worry…I am not staying here for nothing…I will not quit…if need be I’ll seek your support” a vernacular weekly reports.

Following his announcement surmises have been raised considering to which force in the country is backing the monarchy probably in the verge of decline, making king Gyanendra so certain that the institution will remain continue.

Not even King Gyanendra’s close aides have a hint of it all….according to them president of India’s Congress Party Sonia Gandhi is behind Nepal’s King”, reveals Janaastha further.

“The royalists who have met King Gyanendra of late harangue that the King is not ready to dislodge even an inch…Gyanendra tells them all that he is sufficiently confident that the institution he represents will be kicking and alive immaterial of what the parties decide”.

A meeting was organized at the private residence of Baikuntha Sumsher-King Gyanendra’s close aide at Maitighar, Kathmandu on May 12, 2008. Noted royalists and royal relatives who participated in the meeting were trying to devise strategies on behalf of King Gyanendra to ensure King’s stay at the Palace.

The crux of the meeting was mainly focused on “What the King should do now?”. One participant observed that King Gyanendra should not meet Comrade Prachanda at all. “It was Prachanda first who had requested for a meeting with King Gyanendra…however the King has dismissed as yet”.

The meeting finally concluded that the “King should not meet Prachanda for the time being”.

As the countdown begins along with the first sitting of the CA meeting to go for thirteen days to abolish the 240 year institution of monarchy in Nepal- this issue is getting more and more complex say analysts though repeatedly promised by the political leadership and more importantly guaranteed by the Interim Constitution.
