With an aim to attract international tourists at the historic Sidda Gufa (Sidda Cave), locals and tourism entrepreneurs have decided to organize a five-day long First Siddha Gufa Festival beginning from March 6.
The cave, which is claimed as the longest cave in the south Asian region, is about half-an-hour walk from Bimal bazaar of Tanahun district along Prithvi Highway.
The festival is organized to attract national as well as foreign tourists to the cave, said Lalkumar Shrestha, chairman of festival main organizing committee at a press meet Monday in Pokhara.
"We are planning to organize the festival annually," said Shrestha, adding, "If we can publicize it in the international arena, it will be quite helpful for the promotion of tourism in the country."
Some 20 years ago, local Durga Bahadur Thapa and four others discovered the cave, which is about 750 meters long. The cave is like a big hall.
Last year about 12,000 foreigners visited the cave, which is nearby famous tourist hub Bandipur in the district.
