At the time when the country as a whole has its voice attached in republic, the recent opinion of Nepali Congress (NC) founder leader Krishna Prasad Bhattarai and the Prime Minister Girija Prasad Koirala's daughter Sujata Koirala favouring the monarchy in the country has raised a string of questions in the political circle.
Why Bhattarai quitted all the relation with the party when NC supported republican mainstream removing constitutional monarchy from its party manifesto? And did Sujata speak out in favour of the king without any consultations with her father PM and the President of Congress Koirala? Sources close to the NC said that Sujata had not hold her stance on monarchy in ignorance nor without consulting her PM father.
Sources said she has been mothering a dream to become a prime minister of Nepal after her father. She has thrown "the trump card of monarchy", as a part of the same, to garner support of the Nepal Army (NA), some diplomats, money and power to fulfill her same desire.
NA, which is almost in favour of king and some of the diplomats were insisting her to advocate monarchy. While sources said those intact with palace were also pledging her with financial help among others when needed.
On the other hand, many of the NC cadres favour king. They are quite at the moment viewing the circumstances. So, Sujata adopts the path of monarchy to garner sympathy of that group and to tackle jointly against the communists if they came in rise after the royal demolish.
A tabloid Nepali Patra citing sources close to NC reported that the PM Koirala, on the other hand, is favouring republic viewing the changed political scenario and the will of people. He doubts of losing his chair as a PM from his alliance parties and people if he turned down their collective voice. And if, by luck, republic was declared then he even do not want to miss the chance to collect credit.
Kisunji, however, had a different consent. Sources close to Bhattarai said that he feared of the nationality if monarchy is abolished. He said that the nationality of the country would come in verge if monarchy gets abolished.
He fearing of attack in the national unity, sovereignty and freedom of the country once the monarchy has been wiped out, urged for its continuation for the sake of nation, though personally he has nothing to do with the monarchy, sources claimed.
