bandh paralyzed Eastern Terai life

Nepalmountainnews Report | 15 Jun 2007

Life in Sunsari, Morang and Saptari has been greatly affected by separate hit announced by the Madhesi people’s Rights Forum (MPRF) and Maoists.

While the MPRF has announced a banda in Sunsari and Morang demanding the release of their cadres in police custody, Maoists have closed down Saptari demanding action against those involved in the recent killing of their cadres.

According to our local correspondents, hundreds of passengers have been left in a lurch after vehicular movement on the highways was brought to a complete halt.

All main markets, educational institutions and factories remain closed in the districts.

Meanwhile, tempo workers have shut down Hetauda stretch of the East-west Highway alleging that micro vans were being operated on their routes.

In the meantime, the CPN-M central secretariat meeting is being held at party chairman Prachanda’s New Bazaar residence to discuss the latest political developments of the country and formulate a future strategy for the party.

The meeting is also planning to present a proposal before the government to ban the Madhesi People’s Rights Forum (MPRF) which has killed Maoist cadres in the past.

The participants are holding “grave” discussions on the killing of their party cadres even after their entry into mainstream politics and involvement in the peace process, the sources said.

Similarly, Prachanda’s proposal containing evaluation of past works and future strategies is also being discussed.

Meanwhile, discussions are also being held on Prachanda’s meeting with former US president Jimmy Carter scheduled for today.
