Nepal’s Ambassador to South Korea Kamal Prasad Koirala has written a letter to South Korean President Lee Myung-bak, requesting him to “correct” the erroneous information in South Korean textbooks regarding the birth place of Lord Buddha, said a news report.

Lumbini-the birth place of Buddha

The four-page letter states the fact that Buddha was born in Lumbini and that Lumbini is in Nepal. The letter says that when India was under the British rule, some British authors had written that Buddha was born in India, which is still believed to be true in many parts of the world.

According to a news report published by The Kathmandu Post Daily, Koirala also said that the United Nations General Secretary Ban Ki-moon has shown keen interest in the development of Lumbini.

He also said that the British Museum has also changed the birthplace of Lord Buddha as Nepal on November 7. Koirala has also forwarded a copy of the letter to Lee Sang-ki, a founder member of the Asia Journalist Association.

A South Korean book of the primary level, ‘Ethics Part One’, states that Buddha was born in Khapila Castle in India. Another secondary level book, ‘World History’, states that Buddha was born in a Royal Brahmin family in India.
