Nepal is at the top of the FIFA rankings among the South Asian countries as per the latest update provided by the football’s world governing body on Wednesday.


Nepal moved up 12 spots in the FIFA rankings to 136th spot from 148th spot gaining a total 184 points, as per the FIFA updated rankings.

This is the great achievement for the national soccer team despite suffering a crushing defeat against Jordan in the ongoing World Cup qualifiers.

Nepal is followed by Bangladesh (147th spot), India (153rd spot), Maldives (160th spot), Pakistan (171st spot), Sri Lanka (176th), Afghanistan (179th) and Bhutan (201st) in the FIFA rankings.

The next update is set to be published on August 24, 2011, according to FIFA.

Two months ago, Nepal had moved up 22 spots in the FIFA rankings to 150 following the national team’s good form and success in international matches which included win against Bhutan and Afghanistan in international friendlies.

Last month, Nepal had defeated East Timor in two World Cup 2014 qualifiers to set the stage for a second round clash against Jordan.
