BPKIHS students boycott exams following comrade’s suicide
Students of BP Koirala Institute of Health Sciences (BPKIHS), Dharan have ostracized their BDS and MBBS exams.
A student of the college Srikant Dangol committed suicide on Tuesday, after being barred from appearing in the exams due to low attendance.
Irate students have been demanding a thorough investigation on the case as they believe Dangol died due to negligence of the college. Dangol was a dentistry student at the institution.
BPKIHS students have also padlocked the dental college, bringing the educational and the administrative work to a complete halt.
Pravas Sunuwar, BDS first year student said that they will continue the protest until those responsible are punish.
Dangol committed suicide at the quarters of his father Uday Lal Dangol at Tinkune -8 Dharan.
According to the students, attendance was to be announced thrice in a year but this time the administration had announced the attendance only a day before the exams and informed Dangol that he is barred from appearing in the exams due to 80% less attendance.
A student must have 80% attendance or more to appear in the exams. Around 11 students had shortage of attendance; all could appear for the exams except Dangol.
Dental Surgeon Kumbha Raj Joshi said that, “How come rest of the barred students were allowed to sit for the exams and only Dangol was barred, there should be an investigation to unveil the answer”.
Dangol´s body has been kept at the academy as the students are not allowing the post mortem before they get the assurance of an investigation on the matter from the administration.
