100 couples indulging in amorous activities caught
Around 200 youngsters were caught for indulging in ‘amative’ activities since two months as part of the
Pashupati Area Development Trust’s campaign to restrict indecent activities on temple premises.
“This is a religious shrine and uncomely activities are strictly forbade on its premises and adjoining Shleshmantak forest,” said Sushil Nahata, member-secretary at the PADT.
“We have found some couples indulging in such activities in the forest and the temple vicinity,” he said. “So we charged Rs 200 from each person. The fine has been deposited in the PADT account.”
Around four million people live in the Kathmandu Valley. However, there is no open space for recreational activities. Youngsters are seen openly taking cannabis at PADT vicinity along with sadhus.
“We caught around 100 couples till Mahashivaratri,” said Nahata. “We issued a warning first and charged Rs 200 from each person later,” he said. “Nepal Police has assisted us in taking action.”
A couple from Maiti Devi in Kathmandu said, “We come here often as there is no park in the city”. Nahata said that the youngsters sometime claim to be married. “If they are married, why do they come here to indulge in such activities?” he wondered.
Narrottam Baidya, treasurer at the PADT, said that they were not extremists.
“They can visit the place and pray at the shrine,” he said.
