Timilsina, Thapa claim handshake record
Pawan Timilsina and his elder brother Dinesh claimed to have broken the world record for ‘the longest continuous handshake’.
According to the duo, their handshake, which lasted for 42 hours and 30 minutes, shattered the previous record set by the Newzelanders Alastair Gaplin and Don Purdon. Their handshake had lasted 33 hours and 3 minutes.
“I wanted to spread the message of peace,” said Dinesh, a Grade XII student at Everest Multiple College. The younger Timilsina, a fifth grader at Everest School said the attempt was dedicated to bringing fame to him and the country.
The Timilsina brothers began shaking each others’ hand at a programme organised by Everest Multiple College in its premises from 1 pm on March 4 and continued until 7.30 am on March 6.
“Students approached me with the proposal saying it was to spread the message of peace,” said Anup Acharya, director of the college. “So, we organised the programme in the college itself,” he added. The director informed that the college would send video footage and other evidences to the World Records Academy to claim the record.
