289 raped, 459 killed, 115 abducted last year: INSEC

About 300 women were raped, 459 persons were murdered and another 115 were abducted by various groups and individuals across the country in 2010, shows a report released by Informal Sector Service Centre (INSEC).

‘Nepal Human Rights Year Book 2011’ released by INSEC Saturday shows, out of 459 murders last year the motive and the people behind 391 murders were still unclear.

According to the report, 32 were killed extra-judicially by the state, five by the Unified CPN (Maoist), one by Youth Force, one by Limbuwan Rajya Parsishad and 30 by various armed outfits in the Terai.

According to the report out of 115 persons abducted last year 41 were children. Saptari, Siraha, Dang and Sarlahi districts had the most number of cases of abduction.

Likewise, 289 women were reportedly raped out of which 186 were girls below 18 years of age.

The report shows, there had been 630 instances of human rights violation by the state and 672 cases by the Unified CPN (Maoist).

The report mentions, the number of human rights violation cases in 2010 had decreased by 5 percent compared to 2009.
